I ended up rewriting a lot of SuperClock! for the 4.0 release in order to clean up some stuff, but also to add and remove some features. The following lists the major changes, effects, etc. Note that bugs have and will creep in, given the number of changes. Let me know what you find.
Revision Changes:
• 4.0.4
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash in the control panel (seems to be most noticeable on the Mac Plus).
- Got "chime same number of times..." working again.
• 4.0.3
- Fixed a bug that caused the Plus, SE, and Classic only to crash on installation.
- Fixed a bug that could cause the clock to remain permanently hidden.
- Made a change in displaying the list of fonts to work around a conflict with Suitcase II that was causing some of the fonts to be ignored. This was affecting people using Japanese system software (probably others as well) since they couldn't use kana/kanji fonts.
- SuperClock! should not stomp on the Timbuktu icon.
- Sped things up a bit.
◊ SpellFinder™ for AppleLink® causes the clock to be initially displayed in the wrong location on the menu bar. Clicking to another application and back (forces the menu bar to be redrawn) puts the clock in the right place. This will not be fixed.

- Fixed a bug that was causing non-color Macs (i.e., Plus, SE, Classic, PowerBook 100) to crash on installation.
- Fixed an editing problem with the alarm time.
- Fixed a bug in the "chime same number of times..." option.

- Fixed a bug in 4.0 (thanks, everyone) that caused the control panel to crash in 32-bit mode (no, actually this was not a "32-bit clean" issue).
Bug Fixes (4.0):
- The battery indicator (for portables) will no longer flash, and should now show the correct battery level on all PowerBooks.
- The clock will keep running while typing in Microsoft Word. In previous versions of SuperClock!, the clock display would stop updating until you clicked the mouse. This is actually a Word weirdness, but it was an easy thing to fix.
- For those of you running 3.9 (not 3.9.1) on a Mac II, IIx, IIcx, or SE/30, there was a bug that could cause SuperClock! to crash when it was installing. This was fixed in 3.9.1 and is also fixed in 4.0.
New Features (4.0):
- The battery indicator (for portables) is now optionally displayed. Also, it will display the battery level even when charging.
- Added the day of the week (optionally) to the time and date.
- The clock can now chime on the quarter hours (:15, :30, :45) as well as on the hour (you're welcome, Owen).
- All chimes now happen in the background so you won't have to wait for potentially long sounds to finish.
- The old screen saver check has been replaced by a new Gestalt-based one initiated by Berkeley Systems for After Dark (2.0u and later). It's also used by Pyro!, and Darkside (if not now, soon). This may cause SuperClock! to display the clock at inappropriate times with older screen savers. I decided to follow this course because it's faster and more accurate than the old check.
Removed Features (4.0):
- SuperClock! now always checks for a screen saver, so the option was removed.
- Support for Stepping Out II™'s fixed menu bar has been removed. If this turns out to be a bad thing, please verbally flog me.
